Texas Association of Business Endorses HilderbranFebruary 6, 2014
Hammond: “Hilderbran will put the taxpayer and tax collector on equal footing”
SAN ANTONIO, TX – Today the Texas Association of Business, the leading employer organization in Texas for more than 85 years, endorsed Harvey Hilderbran for Texas Comptroller. TAB’s stated mission is “to make the Texas business climate the best in the world.”
Chairman Hilderbran said, “I’m honored to have earned the endorsement of the Texas Association of Business (TAB) in the campaign for Texas Comptroller. As a small businessman and business consultant, I know firsthand the challenges that our Texas small businesses face. As chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, I’ve successfully worked for three years to reform our tax system by making it fairer and more responsive to business concerns. In 2013 my tax bill offered a permanent tax cut, instead of a temporary one offered by the Texas Senate, and we passed a $1 million exemption from the margins tax, which is helping thousands of Texas businesses grow and prosper. Ultimately, we provided over $1 billion in tax relief.”
Hilderbran has been a member of the Texas House and Ways committee for four terms and chairman for three years.
“Businesses across Texas are frustrated by the way the Texas Comptroller’s office interacts with them: in tax disputes, with inconsistent rule making, and customer service. I have proposed a specific plan to improve the office for all Texas taxpayers and the TAB endorsement is recognition that I am the best qualified and most experienced candidate for Texas Comptroller.”
“Because of his role as chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means committee Harvey Hilderbran has developed a keen interest in the business issues facing the Comptroller’s office,” said Bill Hammond, President and CEO of the Texas Association of Business. “We feel he will bring a much needed balance to the office and put the taxpayer and tax collector on equal footing.”
